About Te Pito o Te Kapu - Frasertown School

Nestled in the heart of Frasertown, a close-knit rural community with a rich history, Te Pito o Te Kapu - Frasertown School has been a cornerstone of education for over 150 years. Our school proudly serves approximately 100-120 students in small, nurturing classes, fostering a strong sense of whanau where every individual is valued. Reflecting the diverse tapestry of our community, our student body is predominantly Māori and European, enriched by the presence of various other cultures. This vibrant mix contributes to a rich and inclusive learning environment.

At Te Pito o Te Kapu, our vision is driven by three core strategic goals: Excellence, Equity, and Environment. We strive to provide our Frasertown whanau with opportunities to achieve excellence in all their endeavors, ensuring equitable access and support so every student can thrive and be their best. Central to our philosophy is the creation of a safe and welcoming learning environment where all members of our whanau feel a deep sense of belonging.

Our curriculum is deeply rooted in Te Ao Māori, with Te Reo Māori woven throughout our daily practices. We are committed to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, fostering understanding and equitable outcomes for all learners. Through initiatives such as Te Ara Whakamana, PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning), and Kaupapa Māori Curriculum (KC) play, we empower our students, cultivate positive behaviours, and ignite a love for learning within a Māori context.

Te Pito o Te Kapu is more than just a school; it is the "centre" – te pito – of our community. We cherish our strong connections with whanau and the wider Frasertown area, working collaboratively to ensure the success and wellbeing of our tamariki. We invite you to join our Frasertown whanau and experience the unique and enriching education offered at Te Pito o Te Kapu - Frasertown School.

Nga Manu of the Three Rivers

Artist - Rebecca Stone

The rivers that join at Frasertown were once a meeting place for chiefs of the region, a place of connection. School can also be a meeting place of many things that will make you, you. Knowledge, friendships, mistakes, learning and ultimately growth.

The ribbon is symbolic of the school in its bright red colour. Mimicking the school logo, three pieces come together near the koru shaped centre as the rivers come together in Frasertown. The Hangaroa and Ruakituri rivers meet at Te Reinga then flow towards the sea. Carried in this painting by the Korimako who brings good luck and safety. He is believed to be one of the nga aitanga Kapakapa a Tane (winged children of the forest God) due to his beautiful song. May we always encourage the unique songs of the children here.

The Waiau river travels from Waikaremoana, carried here by the Kereru. Representing peace and abundance, they are vital to our eco system by dispersing native seeds. Much like education which can plant seeds of knowledge and awareness hopefully sparking passions.

These two rivers merge together to form Te Wairoa Hopupu Honengenenge Matangirau. Carried by the Tui, thought to be a messenger for the Atua, symbolising harmony and guardianship. They protect traveler’s on their journey and our children are on a journey through schooling and life. Like our tamariki, tui are communicators full of joy and creativity. Surrounding them all are leaves from the schools long standing oak tree.

May these manu Māori watch over all attending Frasertown School and bring us together like nature once did with the three rivers.

Kia ora whānau,

Please check the "Notices" section immediately regarding our trip to the Mitre 10 Tough Kid event this Thursday.

If you still wish to take your child personally, please read the full notice for the 12:00 pm Wednesday deadline to notify the office.

Health Alert: School Sores (Impetigo)
Kia ora whānau,

We have had a few reported cases of school sores (impetigo) within our school community. To keep our tamariki healthy and stop the spread, please take note of the following:

Check Daily: Look for small red spots, blisters, or golden-crusted sores, usually on the face, hands, or legs.

Stay Home: If you suspect school sores, please keep your child home and visit your doctor or pharmacist for treatment.

Cover Up: Students can return to school 24 hours after starting antibiotics, provided all sores are completely covered with a waterproof bandage.

Hygiene: Please remind your tamariki about frequent hand washing and not sharing towels or clothing.

Thank you for helping us keep our school a healthy place to learn!
